Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:
Welcome to EastLake Middle School — Home of the Tritons! This will be a great year at ELM. As the principal, I look forward to meeting and working with you this year to provide the best educational program for your child. You can find me almost every day in front of the school for a quick chat. ELM provides a rigorous and supportive program taught by an enthusiastic, highly qualified, and dedicated staff.
First Day. The first day of school will be on Thursday, July 20. Please note that the year begins mid-week for students. Both Thursday and Friday will be minimum days (8:15 a.m. – 12:51 p.m.). Signs will be posted around campus directing students where to report to pick up their class schedule on the first day. Additionally, all 7th graders, after picking up their locator cards, will be escorted to the pavilion for a welcome speech by the principal. You are invited to attend this event at 8:20 a.m. Students should have paper, pen, and pencil for the first few days. Please shop for other school supplies after your child’s teachers have informed them of what he/she will need in their classes. You will also be able to contact the teachers via their email located on the school website.
Proof of Residency. All students are required to show evidence of residency. New proof of residency is required whenever a change in address has been made. Students whose residency verification has not been completed will not be able to attend classes at ELM. The Tdap vaccination will also be required for students to attend school.
Nutrition. Breakfast and lunch are served during the school day. Breakfast is $1.60 and lunch is $2.80. Breakfast and lunch can be prepaid in person or online via our school website link at paypams.com. All students will have a pin number to purchase cafeteria items during breakfast, nutrition break and lunch. The seventh and eighth grade students have separate lunches except for Fridays. The free or reduced lunch program is available for students who are eligible and who have submitted a completed lunch application to the ELM Cafeteria Supervisor.
Parents as Partners. We have the mutual goal of maximizing your student’s achievement while at ELM. As our educational partner we ask that you ensure that your student:
attends school daily and makes the most of their educational opportunities;
engages in activities that feeds his/her interests;
act in an appropriate manner;
speaks with their teacher when they have a question.
We ask students, staff and community members to follow the Triton Way — be respectful, resourceful and responsible.
iPad. Students in 7th and 8th grade will be issued an Apple iPad this year. Please make sure you and your child read the iPad use agreement form to ensure that all rules and procedures are followed. The iPad will contain two of the student textbooks, Math and Science. The iPad will also include district-approved apps including a calendar. Please make sure you know your child’s access code and review the iPad content on a regular basis. The iPad should be charged and stored in an area not accessible to the student over night.
Important Dates. A copy of our “Dates to Remember” can be found on the ELM website. Please keep this information for future reference. Throughout the year, we will update the website with important information. We will from time to time alert you of these changes via a phone message or student letter. I encourage you to visit our school website, contact teachers via Jupiter Grades (tbd), email or contact the main office at 591-4000 with any questions.
ELM is a special school. As principal, I want to extend an invitation to each of you to visit our school, become a volunteer, be a supporter of the local EastLake Education Foundation (EEF), join the PTSO, and attend our school activities. Education is a team effort! Here’s to a great year, and I hope to see you at our Open House on Thursday, August 17, at 6:00 p.m. Again, welcome to Eastlake Middle –
A California Distinguished School and Gold Ribbon recipient.
