Principal’s Message

Dear Triton Community:

Welcome to Eastlake Middle School!  You are part of an award-winning tradition of excellence in academics, arts and athletics.  Just recently, Eastlake Middle School was recognized as a Gold Ribbon School.  In order to receive this distinction, a school must exemplify strong student outcomes for all students.  Our visual and performing arts program has been consistently recognized as one of the top middle school programs in the county.  Finally, our students compete at a high level in a variety of athletic contests having recently won league titles in a number of girls and boys events.

Eastlake Middle School is composed of a strong certificated and classified staff.  Each staff member is dedicated to the success of your student.  You will find that our staff has high expectations for all students and provides support systems to meet these expectations.  Eastlake middle school has a talented collection of teachers dedicated to providing educational experiences that promote career and college options.  We have a tremendous counseling and special education program that meets the social, academic and emotional needs of all students.  Walk our beautiful campus and you will see that our custodial and gardening staff have put in an inordinate amount of time to keep it pristine.  Walk into the main office and our wonderful clerical staff is here to help.  Our campus supervisors ensure that our students are safe and supervised.  Our nurse and cafeteria staff provide healthy life choices.  Together, we strive to make a positive difference.

When I interviewed for the position of principal at Eastlake Middle School, I asked several students what they loved most about being a student at this school.  Across the board, students expressed that Eastlake Middle was a school where every student had access to a caring adult and could participate in a variety of experiences that match their academic and social interests.  I look forward to supporting our students, staff and community as we continue to make Eastlake Middle School a special place.  We are all partners in helping our students prepare for the next steps in their lives.  We ask that all students be respectful, resourceful and responsible.  I promise to do the same for your student and this community.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, comments and/or concerns.  I can be reached at 619-591-4000 or via email at ricardo.cooke@sweetwaterschools.org.   I am personally vested in this district as I was a student at Mar Vista Middle School as well as Chula Vista High School.  I was also a teacher at Bonita Vista High School.  In addition, I live in this community and I know that Eastlake is an amazing place to raise children.   I have included a link to my résumé as well as my digital portfolio to give you additional insights on my background. I look forward to meeting you in the near future.  Go Tritons!

In Your Service,

SUHSD Intra-District Transfer Information

The Sweetwater Union High School District supports the neighborhood school philosophy.  School boundaries are established for every district school and students are assigned to a home school.  Students who live in a neighborhood school’s attendance area receive priority to attend their home school.

To view the designated home school for your home address, go to http://planningandconstruction.sweetwaterschools.org/boundaries/ and click on the My School Locator blue box.

The district realizes that there are valid reasons for students to be permitted to attend a school other than their home school.  It is important to note that all of the middle and high schools in the district follow the same rigorous common core state curriculum.

The parents or legal guardians of a student may request an intra-district transfer from the home school to another district school by completing an Intra-District transfer application. These applications are available at the Student Support Services office. No other documentation is needed during this time.

For the 2017 – 2018 school year, the window to apply for an intra-district transfer begins on February 27, 2017 and ends Friday, April 7, 2017.

Approval of an intra-district transfer request is contingent on space availability at the requested school.  Based on projected capacity, the following schools are closed to Intra District Transfer Requests for the 2017 – 2018 school year: Chula Vista High, Eastlake High, Rancho Del Rey Middle, Olympian High, Otay Ranch High, and Sweetwater High School.  Please note that all Intra-District transfers may affect athletic eligibility for grades 9-12.

There are four categories under which a parent can request a student intra-district transfer from the home school to another school in the district. These categories are Family Togetherness, Continuances, Unique Curriculum Programs, and Voluntary Transfers. Feeder School transfers are no longer automatic transfers. Parents/guardians will need to submit an application under the categories eligible for transfers.

Please click on the link below to view a summary of each transfer category.
